History: With his dad playing in numerous
hard rock coverbands and his brother playing guitar, Tony spent his childhood surrounded by music and, "like any normal kid,
loved Ozzy Osbourne and Motley Crue." After the demise of his kiddie group Fallen
Angels, he stopped playing for a few years because he was sick of all the loud music his dad and brother were playing in the
house, and he chose to rebel by keeping silent. The quiet didn't last long as first Tony
founded another band, Cosmic Frogs, then joined his brother's band (mostly to hang out with the older kids). Tony's intense ambition to make it in
music is rooted in his troubled school days (he was kicked out for truancy and fighting) and his realization that "I'd better
do music, or I'll be a bum." Growing better and more insightful as
a songwriter all the time, Tony used down time at various odd jobs to write tunes. The one hobby he wants to get back into
is riding dirt bikes as he did when he was a kid. “On tour it’s not like everyone
thinks. There’s usually nothing much to do. We just end up telling a bunch of kids
at the show, ‘Hey, we’re staying at this hotel,’ and everyone comes over and you hang out. Anyway, one time these frat guys were
at a show and one of them was trying to be cool with us, like, ‘Hey, you guys, come back to our frat house.' It was, like, three in the morning and
there were some girls with the dude, so we were like, ‘Might as well, whatever.’ This was me; Paul [Thomas], who’s
in our band; my best friend, Tony [Lovato], who’s in a band called Mest; and Deryck [Whibley] and Steve [Jocz] from
Sum 41. Plus, we had all these fireworks with
us that we had bought earlier. So we went back to this frat house, and
while everyone was asleep we lit off all the fireworks in the house. There were rockets and stuff going all
over the place. The whole house was filled with smoke.
It was awesome! All the frat guys came running out like,
‘That’s not fuckin’ cool, dude!’ They chased us out and even called the
cops. We had to run. We all jumped in this car, but we lost
Deryck and Steve along the way. We found them the next morning, sitting
at this gas station on the curb. They were so drunk they didn’t even know
where they were. Tony is 50% Italian and 50% German. Both his
mother and father are also 50/50. |
