When tim was about 20 years old he and his long time friend matt freeman started the band OPERATION IVY, and after two years when the band broke up tim got in serious drug and alcohol problems.

After that Matt decided to get Tim off the drugs and he started the short lived band Downfall.When Downfall broke up Matt started the band RANCID just to make sure that Tim hade something to do and that he should stay away from the drugs and the alcohol. Tims father was also an alcoholic.

Tim is the most curious and inquisitive member in RANCID. When he talks to fans he would like get to know stuf about them and ask them how they got into punk etc.
